Supplements, although not as important as a proper diet or exercise when it comes to taking back your health, play a big part in combating some of the age-related issues that make it more difficult for guys in their 40โ€™s, 50โ€™s and beyond to maintain vibrant health.

In this video, youโ€™ll discover the specific supplements, why theyโ€™re so important, and some of our top product recommendations. So, whether youโ€™re looking to lose weight or just feel more energetic & youthful, here are 6 of the best supplements for men over 40.

*1 – Multivitamins & Vitamin B12 (1:10)

As you age, your ability to absorb and utilize vitamins decreases. This is due to a range of factors, including a reduction in stomach acid and depletion in the quality of soil used in mass farming. Using a Multivitamin for men is an insurance policy to ensure you get enough vitamins into your body each day, so you absorb what you need daily to ensure optimal health.

Recommended Multivitamin: Maximum Vibrance
B12 Dosage: 2.4mcg

*2 – Vitamin D3 (2:51)

Although many multivitamins contain vitamin D3, there is a lot of research that proves the positive benefits of it but only at the optimum levels. Often, these levels are not met by the quantity contained in multivitamins. Likewise, if you live in an area above 37 degrees latitude, youโ€™re not in a place where your skin can synthesize vitamin D3 from the sun, which is natureโ€™s way of providing this very important vitamin to us.

Vitamin D3 helps you grow strong bones, and has also been linked to increases in metabolism (making it one of the best supplements for weight loss), strengthening of your immune system, and improving testosterone levels, making it one of the best supplements for men of all ages.

Recommended brand: Sports Research
Dosage: Varies by product

*3 – Fish Oil (4:12)

Fish oil is an important supplement for people of all ages, but as you get into your 40โ€™s, 50โ€™s and 60โ€™s, itโ€™s ESSENTIAL. Fish oil supplements contain Omega 3 fatty acids, which helps to keep our heart and brain healthy and functioning optimally.

One of the best things that fish oil helps with though, is that it gets utilized into the outer layer of every cell in your body. The positive effects of this include better hormone signaling (meaning better hormonal balance), and generally optimal function of what each cell does within our bodies.

Recommended brand: Nordic Naturals
Dosage: Varies by product

*4 – Magnesium (5:41)

No matter what age you are, the majority of people are deficient in magnesium. Magnesium helps your cardiovascular system and helps to decrease stress on your heart by relaxing arteries and blood vessels. It also helps to improve recovery time after intense exercise.

Recommended brand: Calm Magnesium Powder
Dosage: Varies by product – Take at night

*5 – Turmeric / Curcumin (7:06)

Turmeric is becoming more widely known now as a helpful supplement as well as a cooking spice. The curcuminoids that are a constituent part of turmeric powder are natural anti-inflammatories. Reducing inflammation throughout your entire body is a massive plus to your health, especially when you consider that chronic inflammation is a root cause of almost every disease.

Recommended brand: Life Extension Super Curcumin
Dosage: Varies by product

*6 – Creatine Monohydrate (8:40)

You may have heard of the benefits of creatine as one of the best supplements for muscle growth or to improve athletic performance. It does help with that, but the most important reason for you to take creatine monohydrate as a supplement is to help stop age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia), even if youโ€™re not exercising.

Creatine monohydrate has also been research-proven to help in the prevention of age-related memory decline. So, itโ€™s not only good for your body, but also your brain too.

Recommended brand: Optimum Nutrition
Dosage: 5g daily either with breakfast or in a post-workout shake.

I am having a hard time finding the multivitamin brand he recommends. He recommends Maximum Vibrance, but all I can find is a meal replacement from them. Anyone else find the Maximum Vibrance Brand multivitamin? Also is the B12 separate from the multivitamin he recommends? Thanks in advance.

I am a 51 year old with congestive heart failure, I have a question about creatine. If you retain water because of the condition of your heart, is it safe to take as you mentioned in another video it helps your muscles retain water?

Dr. Balduzzi, thanks for this video. I just turned 20 and this is exactly the sort of guidance I was looking for. I have an important question, however. Is your recommendation for 2.4 mg of B12 correct? I did some additional reading and all sources I find recommend doses in micrograms. Thanks.

Just added Turmeric+Ginger+Black-Pepper-Extract, Magnesium, and Creatine to my portfolio of vitamins and mineral supplements I take. Thanks for this information, it was professionally delivered. P.S. I'm already good on all the other ones you mentioned due to my whole food multivitamin and Fish Oil pills. P.P.S. I also take a Probiotic and Fiber supplement for digestive health, and I do the Garlic+Vitamin C combo mainly for mild hypertension. There's others, but i'll stop now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the quality video. (edited to add: SUBSCRIBED)
