Probably different for everyone. I'm 65 and the Keto diet works best for me. Once you get off sugar it's very easy. Feel the best on this, more energy and better sleep. Also I'm done with the heavy exercise. Just do arm lifting online and walking as much as possible. That's also good for dealing with the upcoming dark days of winter/lockdown!

Oh haha I’ve always weighed myself on Friday’s for this reason! I let myself drink wine and have a take out night on the weekend, so weighing on Monday would only be a disaster! Friday after all the hard work makes much more sense ☺️

Dont wait to you get diagnosed with diabetes! Too much food and alcohol especially during Covid hometime pushed me overboard and I am now doing my best with tablets and have lost 10 Kg but still need more and my levels are lower. Its still hard as I love cakes etc.. no sugar in my coffee and many other lifestyle changes.
So this type of video is very relevant to me, thanks Bella!

I'm 49. I've lost 25 kilos in 27 weeks😊 I do keto/low carb, working out and Intermittent Fasting. Lost 1 kilo/week, in a very steady pace😊 Overweight is not a caloric problem, it's a hormonal problem-get control of your insulin and cortisol levels, and you will not only lose weight, but your health will improve😊

Definitely too much good fats contribute to body fat because it's fat at the end of the day…so stick to small portions.🙂

I’ve really had some success in the past with the “GM diet”…it makes you lose the water weight quickly in the beginning, so it makes you feel good everytime you weigh yourself in the morning. It’s not meant to be done always, but i think it’s a good way to kick start weight loss. I also find that it resets my taste buds and I start craving more fruits and vegetables after.

At 72, I’m following you religiously. On losing weight, I have to agree, thin all my life, I started having trouble with weight gain in my 40s, and no one warned me. And I am still having trouble. I watched your video on “intermittent fasting.” And looked into more research. At first I tried 16:8. Not much happened. Then I discovered 24-hour fasting one or two days a week. It may sound extreme but in your 70s, it’s even harder to lose weight than in your 40s. I lost 2.75 pounds in the first week. And it’s not that hard to do. I fast from Sunday at 5 pm to Monday at 5 pm (just as the weekend is ending which allows an early supper and a walk after); then Thursday at 5 pm to Friday at 5 pm (which lets you relax on the weekend). But, fasting actually makes me feel less hungry afterward. One bonus, eh?

One morning a week, I am making a healthy soups for lunches all week long (to avoid too much time in the kitchen and use garlic to compensate for salt, although I use a little salt.) soups take about half an hour to prepare. No snacks ever. Then fish, chicken and greens for the main meal. Asian or French inspired, il n’ya pas de quoi. You can even have a good pasta ( just not too much). I have found “Food and Wine,” a new on-line cooking publication is fantastic at offering healthy, tasty, simple recipes. Also the New York Times cooking app, $5/Mo. You just have to spend a little time to find meals that take only 15 minutes to prep, and decide which foods appeal and how much cooking you can manage in your lifestyle.

As to fashion, it does not take much adjusting to make your classic look work for my age. I was halfway there anyway. I spent two years living in France in my early life (Paris and La Rochelle), so some of your French sensibilities rubbed off. I love it. Vibe La France.

I just need to lose weight to really make the style work well. I have 25 -30 pounds to lose to feel and look really good. Fingers crossed.

One question: Do you think a Kate Spade tote too youthful for a 72-year old? (on sale for $89. I bought it as an interim bag while I’m losing weight. Will I look ridiculous? I’m a writer, retired, use it for library research and lectures. Love what you are doing. Carol, Richmond, Virginia

I know: our physicians say to weigh ourselves once a week at the same time and day, so we get a steady reading of actual progress instead of daily fluctuations due to water intake or a 'cheat meal' or where we are in our hormone cycles or other factors. I think perhaps they recommend Monday mornings because we tend to be more regimented M-F, so are facing the week knowing if we need to add another habit, practice, discipline to our healthy eating plan. It may be best for me to do it after the weekend so I am psyched for the week, as opposed to doing Friday and getting so excited at how wonderful I've been that I blow the weekend apart. Tracking everything we eat in a food diary is good for us because when we want to get a better budget financially, we are told to keep track for one month of every single penny we spend, if even for a stick of chewing gum. So, using this same principle it makes sense to keep track of everything we ingest thus affording ourselves the opportunity to realistically adjust our times of day, amounts of food, and types of food to meet our dietary needs for losing or maintaining weight. If you are presently continuing to lose weight, why not keep the avocado as you are doing and consider decreasing it by half at such point as you hit a plateau where you are not continuing to lose? The point of language is to be understood in this context. In America we would say "indulge in a dessert", however "indulge yourself with a dessert" we use, too. And both are clear. Likewise, we might say we are going to "indulge in a shopping spree" or we will "indulge ourselves by buying a Chanel suit." Both formulations are correct and would be known to most English speakers, unless there are those somewhere who never indulge so never use the word. Lots of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods are very veggie-heavy.

Frederique I love your videos, especially the ones on French style and grace! About this one on weight loss, I know you feel that the healthy fats such as avocado and butter are contributing to your weight gain but it may be more your sugar (and refined carbohydrate) intake. Sugar is present in more foods than we know and excess sugar is converted to fat in the body. Healthy fats are overall better for the body than sugar. Of course you don't want to overdo eating them, everything in moderation. The thing about fats is that they cause you to be satiated quickly so it's difficult to overeat them. Feel free to reach out if you want more tips on reducing sugar in the diet as that is what I help ladies do! Thanks again for your lovely videos. xoxo

If 100 people have said this before I apologize. But as a french woman and an english teacher, I feel compelled to answer the grammar question. You say 'to indulge IN' but you leave out the " yourself". So 'to indulge in chocolate cake (yum)'. The question that remains is to indulge or not to indulge..?

II'm 56 and I've always struggled with weight gain and loss. I'd lose weight and then gain it back and sometimes I'd gain a little more back than I had loss in the first place. I started to have digestion issues and decided to try a new way of eating so I don't have to take stomach medicine. I only eat between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm and no gluten products. Sometimes I breakdown and eat a gluten product if we are somewhere special but usually I don't eat it. I started this in April and now it's August and I've lost 21 lbs and I haven't tried really. I eat everything I want. I usually eat oatmeal as the first meal of the day because like I said my stomach is sensitive. But then I eat what I like for the rest of my meals. If I'm hungry in the am while waiting I have a herbal tea and the same at night if I'm hungry I have a herbal tea that soothes my stomach so I can go to sleep. I love your videos and look forward to many more.

Happy to say I always weigh on Friday first thing. I find changing up breakfast helps if I plateau. Small bowl of Oatmeal or all bran cereal with fruit and almond milk helps. Changing up exercise. In your words I never never never tell myself it’s hard to lose weight. I picture myself in a favorite outfit all the time and I have to say I am well over 50 and easily lose weight. I thank my food for making me healthy and visualize all the time, along with healthy food and exercise. Try it. I see myself walking to my favorite beach! And your English is very very good. Plus love Oscar. He can snore loudly. 😊❤️

There is a great book called "Food Rules: An Eaters Manual" by Michael Pollan. It's really just a book of common sense and honestly the way we used to eat before food became so convenient. I pick it up periodically to flip through as a reminder and I highly recommend it!!!

Any weight of Fat ( healthy or not) have more calories then the same amount of weight from protein or carbs . In other words .
1 teaspoon of fat ( good or bad fat ) will have more calories then
    1 teaspoon of carbs
    Or
    1 teaspoon of protein .
If the body get more calories that he need he will not switch for fat burn stage .
The only way to program the body to start losing weight is to cut calories down ..
And staying Consistent until satisfying results ..

Quiting smoking is wonderful and very hard!!! Congrats.
Little biology here. I can not resist. I am biology instructor. You are right, salt AND also sugar hold water. They do that to keep blood fluids inside of our cells and around our cells at certain concentration. So if you ate a lot of sugar or salt, the water will be retained to dilute the sugar and salt. So if you feel bloated, reduce salt/ sugar and you will be running to the bathroom every hour :)))
That of course does not burn fat. And yes, Frederique is on the money here. Want to lose fat, reduce sugar and fat in your diet. Reduce processed food, because you can not control what's in it. Completely agree. Love your videos! Always looking for new tips.

I’m 68 and I’ve lost two stone (28 pounds) this year in six months and still going. I am on hrt which might help. I run three times a week and lift weights twice a week. In between we walk quite a bit. Living in a city (Singapore) keeps you on your feet more. With lots of activity you can eat more and still lose weight. I do mostly low fat and lots of fruit and veg. I don’t drink. Occasionally I do a week or two of alternate day fasts for 36 hours and that really shifts the scales.

The key is to track every single calorie and to get a fitness tracker that can calculate your calories burned. I can eat up to 1800 calories a day and still drop weight slowly. I haven’t found it any slower to lose the fat than when I was younger. I think we just gradually put on a lot more and it takes longer than dropping the odd pound from time to time. There are also way more temptations in this century than when I was 20! We eat out far more.

Take a week off your diet if you have a lot to lose. Your body needs the boost after a few months. But patience and consistency is the key. It will happen.

I found changing to eating my largest meal at about 2 pm worked well. This wasn't intermittent fasting, as I was eating a small amount in the morning. I went from 147 to 132… and then stalled. The calcium deficiency is something I'll look into.

I’ve just come across your page and obviously guided to it as l am 48 and was struggling to lose weight. I laughed when you said you could lose weight just by thinking about it haha! Same 😉 but since being peri menopausal and now post menopausal it was proving difficult. I did some research and addressed my hormones and because of the fallout of estrogen and estradiol hormone (which regulates your metabolism) your body is more likely to store fat, so diet and nutrition becomes extremely important. Eat more fermented soy, Chickpeas, garlic, dried fruit, fennel and alpha sprouts and of course protein with each meal to keep your hormones in check (amongst other foods). Walk regular after breakfast, lunch and dinner and do some weight training to build muscle as that regulates your estrogen levels by increasing muscle mass which increases metabolism. Thank you Frederick for your wonderful light, fun and honest approach. All the best 🙂
